Working with FIATECH in conjunction with ThomasNet and New Way Valve, HAL, Inc. built a field verification process on C2C Mobile® designed to catch counterfeit material before it’s ever installed.

The Problem
Counterfeit material doesn’t announce itself.
Counterfeit parts can enter an industrial supply chain at almost any hand-off: an unauthorized distributor, a relabeled component, or a substitution nobody flags until it’s already on site.
- Paperwork and visual inspection are exactly what counterfeiters are scheming to defeat.
- A counterfeit valve, fastener, or fitting can look correct right up until it’s under load.
- By the time a counterfeit part is discovered, it may already be installed in critical equipment, where failure is far more expensive and dangerous.
The Collaboration
One thread ties every hand-off together.
HAL, Inc. took on this project as part of its role as FIATECH’s Procurement & Supply Chain Roadmap Champion, working alongside ThomasNet and New Way Valve to build a verification system where material actually arrives, not back at the office.
- Using C2C Mobile®, field verification inspectors scan and photograph incoming material directly from a handheld device at the point of receipt.
- HAL, Inc. developed this step in conjunction with ThomasNet and New Way Valve to ground the process in real supplier and product data.
- Sponsored as a FIATECH industry initiative, the vertification system reduced counterfeit material across the wider capital-projects supply chain, not just a single customer or location.
- Picture and signature capture creates a permanent, auditable record tied to every receipt.
